Introduction to

Irish Traditional Music

For Violin/Viola Performance Majors

 Designed for young artists with a high level of technical skill, this class introduces classical musicians to Irish traditional fiddle. Students learn how to play Irish music through an approach uniquely tailored for the strengths and challenges of classically trained musicians. This approach is framed by current and historical cultural connections, painting a vivid picture of Irish traditional music. 

Irish traditional music thrives both in isolation and in community. This class seeks to spark artistic creativity for classical musicians in isolation and open the door to community, virtual and human.

The class includes:

~     Ten Zoom class sessions (1-hour each)

~     Recordings of tunes (at multiple speeds for learning)

~     Sheet music with & without ornaments/bowings

~     Nine Youtube playlists with typed commentary

~     Resources for continued listening & learning

~     Interactive discussions with fellow students

~     And more!
